Essays on the Real Effects of Exchange Rate-Based Stabilizations
Exchange rate crises in Latin America recently put a spotlight on the perils of Exchange Rate-Based Stabilizations (ERBS), which use the nominal exchange rate as the main policy target for stabilizing inflation. We con...rm the presence of substantial non-linearities in real exchange rate dynamics at the sectoral level. There exists zones where arbitrage is not pro...table because of transaction costs, and thus mean reversion is inexistent. We compute the speed of mean reversion of sector speci...c real exchange rates, conditional on the existence of arbitrage as implied by our non-linear estimations, ...

The Purpose of this paper is to investigate the long-run effect of real effective exchange rate on Iran non-oil trade balance. The methodology is based on ARDL procedure that can be applied irrespective of whether the regressors are I(0) or I(1). The results show the real depreciation has not a favorable long - run effect on the non-oil trade balance of Iran from 1979 to 2001.
